Wits SRC raises funds for students who were not granted NSFAS

The Wits University SRC is raising funds to help students who can't afford to pay their R9340 upfront registration costs #1MillionCampaign

"As the SRC we found ourselves sitting with large numbers of students, 2,788 students, who have to go home due to insufficiency of funds, " SRC president Mcebo Dlamini explained during an interview with eNCA.

He said the university stated in January that there were no funds available to assist these students due to the alleged under-allocation by the Higher Education Ministry.

"We went to the ministry of higher education, we met with NSFAS national but nothing came forth. And the university was about to deregister all these students systematically. Automatically the system deregisters them."

Members of the public can make a tax deductible donation safely via www.witsfoundation.co.za/NSFAS-SRC.asp

The SRC is hoping to raise R1-million by the end of this month. Big ups to them.
